About Us |

We are a community-based organization founded in 1986 by Southeast Asian refugee leaders to address the needs of community members. The organization began as a block club in response to the security concerns and fears of community safety in the North Minneapolis projects. Since then, we have expanded our scope to serve Southeast Asians throughout Minneapolis and the Greater Twin Cities area, focusing on youth and family prevention programs with intentions to help immigrant communities overcome cultural barriers and succeed in their lives in the United States. Since 1986 we have grown however, our main priority remains focused on the needs of Southeast Asian youth and their families. Our mission is, "to build the capacity of Southeast Asian individuals and families so they can fully participate in American life while retaining important cultural values and traditions." Our vision is to become the leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing valuable services and to advocate the needs and concerns of the Southeast Asian community in Hennepin County and the Greater Twin Cities Area. The Southeast Asian Community Council operates several programs that help individuals, families, and the community grow and prosper. These programs function as a support tool and bridge for immigrants and the community as a whole. Our organization would not be possible without the generous contributions and support we receive from the public and other agencies. Our efforts to help individuals learn about the American culture while retaining traditional cultures not only benefit the participants, but society as well. Helping to bring both communities together. |
